The HEREDITARY project (HetERogeneous sEmantic Data integratIon for the guT-bRain interplaY) is an innovative European Union initiative funded under the Horizon Europe framework.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Launched in January 2024 and running for four years, it is coordinated by the University of Padua and involves an international consortium of 18 partners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The project addresses a critical medical challenge: integrating highly diverse, multimodal health data\u2014ranging from genomic sequencing to medical imaging and environmental factors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Its primary focus is exploring multimodal data, including genomics, to better understand, detect, and treat neurodegenerative and psychiatric conditions, such as Parkinson\u2019s, Multiple Sclerosis, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As well, the project focuses on the complex interplay between the gut microbiome and the brain, to understand its effects on the pathologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To achieve this, HEREDITARY employs a five-layer framework centered on privacy-preserving federated learning and advanced semantic data integration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
By establishing secure, decentralized infrastructure, researchers can train sophisticated deep learning models on scattered public and private datasets without compromising patient privacy or transferring raw data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ultimately, HEREDITARY empowers clinicians, researchers, and policymakers with powerful visual analytics and evidence-based insights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
By breaking down data silos, the project aims to transform the diagnosis and treatment of complex diseases while keeping patients actively involved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
