The crowdsourcing experience ‘Crowdsourcing Oppotunities in Medical Imaging’ by Antonio Foncubierta-Rodríguez and Henning Müller has been published in an IEEE communication society letter.

The paper ‘Rotation-covariant texture analysis of 4D dual-energy CT as an indicator of local pulmonary perfusion’ by Adrien Depeursinge, Antonio Foncubierta-Rodriguez, Alejandro Vargas, Dimitri Van de Ville, Alexandra Paton, Pierre-Alexandre Poletti and Henning Müller was accepted. It will be presented at the International Symposium on Biomedical Imaging: From Nano to Macro (ISBI 2013), San Francisco, USA.

The MedGift group will have a stand at the CeBIT 2013,  05 to 09 March at Hannover, Germany.

The name of the stand is “EU Language & Big Data Projects”. The stand will be at Hall 9, stand A 13. It will be in the context of the Khresmoi and PROMISE projects.

Review of the state of the art in Retrieval of High-Dimensional Visual Data by Antonio Foncubierta-Rodríguez to be published in Multimedia Tools and Applications

The manuscript ‘A Survey on Visual Information Search Behavior and Requirements of Radiologists’ by Dimitrios Markonis was accepted for publication. It will be published by the journal ‘Methods of Information in Medicine’, volume 51, issue 6, 2012. 

Prof. Henning Müller gave the presentation Information Access to Medical Image Data: from Big Data to Semantics – Academic and Commercial Challenges at the DBTA Workshop on Academic-Industrial Forms of Collaboration at the University of Lausanne.

The presentation introduced two EU funded projects called Khresmoi and Visceral and highlighted the collaborations of HES-SO with several companies in these projects and also with other Universities and institutions in Switzerland.  

Prof. H. Müller was guest editor together with A. Hanbury and N. Al Shorbaji in the Focus Theme  of  Methods of Information in Medicine journal.  The focus theme in this issue is Health Information Search Combining Text, Visual Information, and Knowledge Bases. 

This is a journal that has stressed, for more than 50 year, the methodology and scientific fundamentals of organizing, representing and analysing data, information and knowledge in biomedicine and health care. 

The Khresmoi project was presented by Prof. Dr. Henning Müller at the Forum the Ark last Thursday 29-nov-2012 at TechnoArk at Sierre, Switzerland.

Two presentations from the MICCAI 2012 and ACM multimedia 2012 are now available at the HesSo website.

The presentation Retrieval of 4D Dual Energy CT for Pulmonary Embolism Diagnosis was presented in the 15th International Conference on Medical Image Computing and Computer Assisted Intervention held October 2012 in Nice, France.

The presentation Ground truth generation in medical imaging: a crowdsourcing-based iterative approach was presented in the Workshop on Crowdsourcing for Multimedia ACM multimedia held November 2012 in Nara, Japan

The talk ‘E-health in general and the projects of the HES-SO Valais’ was given by Henning Müller at the E-Santé: Évolution ou Révolution? conference that took place at the HES-SO in Lausanne.

We presented our projects to over 80 persons involved with the eHealth in the Swiss French part. There will be another event this 29-nov-2012, this time here in Sierre.

The Visceral kick-off meeting will take place in Vienna on the 19th to 20th of November.

Khresmoi’s annual project meeting was held at Sofia, Bulgaria November 13-15 2012 with Hes-so participation.

Two papers have been submitted for the International Symposium on Biomedical Imaging: From Nano to Macro (ISBI 2013) to be held April 7-11, 2013 in San Francisco CA.

The topics of the papers are Rotation-covariant texture analysis of 4D dual-energy CT as an indicator of local pulmonary perfusion by Adrien Depeursinge and 4D texture analysis of dual energy CT for pulmonary embolism computer-aided detection by Antonio Foncubierta-Rodríguez.

The paper Ground Truth Generation in Medical Imaging by Antonio Foncubierta-Rodríguez and Henning Müller was presented at the ACM Multimedia 2012 Conference.

The Conference workshop on crowdsourcing took place 29-oct-2012 in Nara, Japon. 

The VISCERAL project officialy starts November 2012.

The fourth Khresmoi Newsletter is online. It gives an overview of the ezDL software, which forms the basis of the Khresmoi search interface, and describes the strategy adopted to evaluate the Khresmoi search engine. It also contains information on past and upcoming Khresmoi events.

The paper Using MapReduce for Large-scale Medical Image Analysis by Dimitrios Markonis, Roger Schaer, Ivan Eggel, Henning Müller and Adrien Depeursinge was presented at the Second IEEE Conference on Healthcare Informatics, Imaging, and Systems Biology (HISB2012).

The conference took place in UCSD, La Jolla, California.
